Gaaah!

I just spent a very long time cleaning up soap crust* buildup all over the dishwasher, off silverware and dishes, etc etc because the resident XY filled the soap dispenser and forgot to start the dishwasher last night and soap splattered and dried onto things. He goes to bed last so he is supposed to start the dishwasher last thing at night; the crusts come from his unshakeable belief that More Soap is Better. It isn't.

I needed to boil out the teakettle anyway, so I dumped that boiling vinegar water over various dishwasher baskets, and put vinegar on the crusty parts, and scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed. Got all wet and smelly, had to change my shirt, my hands are dried out and itchy, my back hurts and I'm generally pissed off. Grumble grumble stupid husband.

Also I just heard on KPCC that a judge has ruled that the Governator can indeed require state employees to take two unpaid days off per month because This Is An Emergency. It wouldn't have been an emergency if our legislators had gotten off their collective fannies and agreed on a budget instead of sniping at each other and swearing no taxes not nohow not no way and the rest of that - soap crust buildup**. Asshats⁺.

What next, close all the unemployment offices to save money? It doesn't affect me directly, but Bestest Buddy just bought her first house, and now her pay is being cut 10%.

I did get the headboard and resident stuffies dusted and successfully wash the bed pillows (after practising on all of the old squashy ones we keep for couch naps). I guess that counts as a win.


*I was considering a less polite word, but one must set an example for one's offspring, yes?

Heh. I myself am taking my unhealthy self and being driven to Trader Joes, as we are out of (coffee, dogfood, oat bran bread, Barbara's Oat Squares, lox, garlic fries, et'c and so on) and I took the vacuum head apart and put it back together and it still doesn't quite work, so I have been as useful as I am up to.

I can see the XY needs a stern talking to by a professional draincleaner or dishwasher repair person: far from being better, morre soap is what clogs the Ptrap and eventually kills the water pump on dishwashers. I know a scary one-eyed one-armed crazy person who has developed quite a rap about it (in the days before he got hit by a tree while working for a gyppo logger, he worked in his uncle's septic tank business).

Julia, it'll be like the time Franklin found out that pure bleach just makes bacteria sporulate, and you have to dilute it to kill germs

I don't think Himself would listen to the paid expert even. Himself is a chemist who got his start in shampoos and other soaps, therefore he Knows Better.

Fell asleep after lunch. Had weird escaping-pursuers nightmares. Feel horrid. Also it's very very windy here. Good hunting at TJs, and enjoy, at least, getting out of the house for a bit.
