Another Shiny Thing
Mar. 19th, 2021 07:28 pmThis week I strung a necklace.
Some years back, my mum gave me a box of beads, most of them a necklace kit from Cocopah's old Bead of the Month Club. I meant to put it all together and give the necklace back to her, but things kept happening, and what with one little crisis and the next*, I never did. I was reorganising jewelry-making supplies recently, found the box, and got to feeling sad and guilty.
Since which, I decided that since making stuff makes me feel better, I should make things because I wanna, then worry about whom they get foisted off upon. Creative therapy, I'm calling it. So this week I added a bunch of beads from my own hoard, got out the bead board, and strung it all into a three-strand necklace†. I'll save it for someone's birthday.
Materials: Beading wire, findings, shell heishi, assorted Chinese beads, coins, and other beads. I'm pleased, I used several skills and tools I hadn't in a while, including drilling a second hole in the coins.

*Many of which were mum's.
†Technically it's not quite finished. I should put a drop of jewelry cement on the crimps, just to make sure, but my Hypo Cement is all set in the tubes. So that will have to wait until I can buy some more.
