I modified my pocket-sized* Oberon Design leather notebook cover to work as a Midori-type traveller's notebook (or TN for short) and hold multiple inserts. Aka a sort of Fauxdori.

I went around and around trying to decide how many strings I wanted, and maybe I should drill more holes than I needed just in case, and what about this and that. I finally metaphorically smacked myself upside the head and just looked at the minimum I need to get the job done, and there we were.

I punched two holes top and bottom, and strung some heavy elastic cord** through to hold the inserts. I ran it through twice to make it stronger and allow adding a few more things, then knotted it and (very carefully) burnt the ends with a lighter to seal them.

The hardest parts were figuring out the spacing of the holes, and clearing the kitchen table so I had a good strong surface to hammer on. There are lots of videos and stuff on Pinterest that show how to make your own Fauxdori cover, so it wasn't too tricky.

The inserts are one Field Notes notebook, and two pocket inserts from an eBay store that makes and sells pocket-sized traveller's notebook covers. One is a kraft cardstock pocket folder, which I will use for receipts and coupons and the odd bit of paper, the clear plastic one has four pockets for loyalty cards and one big zip pocket for some index cards I drilled to fit my planner, so I can make notes and transfer them over. Also a few magnetic bookmarks just in case I need one. There's still room to add my passport, in case I need another ID. The way things are going, it may be. Sigh. And there are still the pocket flaps to tuck things into too. But anyway, it fits in my purse and isn't too heavy to cart around***. So.

With inserts:

*Softcover Moleskine, Field Notes, or Rhodia - any 3½"x5½" notebook that isn't too thick. Michael's even has some cute ones.

**Just the heaviest round elastic Joann's had, but you can use something in pretty colors. I have some rainbow elastic from another project that's the right size, but black works better with this cover, so. Maybe if I make one from scratch, I can use the rainbow elastic.

***I love my little pocket Filofax, it holds everything, but that thing is heavy and bulky. So it's going in the tote bag, where I have more supplies I might need while I'm out. Because you never know.
