Okay. Deep breaths.

That was scary, but I'm okay, Amazon is okay, the groceries are okay, and nobody got blowed up or nothin'.

I was sitting at the signal on Elm, facing west, waiting for the green light. Light turns green, I hit the gas (there's a bit of a hump in the middle of Brea, so you can't just roll) and start out into the intersection - just as a pickup truck going way too fast runs the red light north on Brea. I hit the brakes, fast. They work like a charm, and fortunately the car behind me hit theirs as well.

I got home. I didn't run into anything. Nothing ran into me. I brought in the groceries and put them away.

I'm still shaking. Why is there never a traffic cop around when you need one?

I just hope the asshat driving that pickup runs afoul of one of the Brea PD traffic stakeouts (like the one by Laurel School) before somebody does get hurt.

Fabulous! I'm doing the official title transfer at the tax collector's office tomorrow. Today I arranged the insurance. It's been fun driving a bigger and newer model car.

This is why the towns around here are putting in red-light cameras at a rate of about five a month.

Now that I've actually calmed down, I am pleased to note that my reflexes are evidently still in working order - that's one of the things that's kept me off the freeways, the fear that I wouldn't react quickly enough in an emergency.

Orange County is chock-full of jackass drivers - not only do they speed and ignore red lights, they are often talking on a cell phone (hand-held), smoking and/or eating or drinking at the same time.
