by Anne, age... let's not even go there.

Cut out fabric and lining, approximately six feet of each, on five-foot kitchen table.

On ironing board, which folds out of the wall and is probably original to the bungie, pin together long seam on each side of curtain, attempting to keep lining, which is shorter and narrower, centered on curtain fabric in all dimensions.

Set up sewing machine. Fill bobbin. Load bobbin. Thread machine. Sew test swatch. Discover that tension is off, on a scale so grand that it can't be the machine (which was just tuned anyway). Recheck path of spool thread. Rethread machine.

Sew test seam. Still off. Rethread machine. Still off. Take out bobbin and reload, rethread machine. Finally, the tension is balanced properly, although I have no idea where exactly I went wrong.

Sew first long side seam. Notice that spool is almost empty. Fortunately, I happen to have a second spool of the same odd dark green, otherwise the whole operation would have come to a halt until I could get to Joann's and buy more thread. Yes, I am that anal; no one would ever notice, but I'd know that the thread didn't match. Sew second long seam.

Press seams. Turn under and hem edges of curtain fabric extending beyond lining, a step not specified in Sunset curtain book instructions. Must have been left to the wisdom of the sewist. Ha.

Press fold lines for top rod pocket. Wrestle with fabric and lining to make sure that everything is lined up evenly. Pin rod pocket. Stab self with pin. Bleed slightly on lining. Brief pause while I remove bloodstains from lining... Sew rod pocket.

Press and pin-baste lower rod pocket. Take down bathroom door curtain and clean off top of door and both curtain rods. Wrestle rods into rod pockets. Wrestle rods back onto brackets. Looks like a decent fit.

Press, pin and sew second rod pocket. Install curtain on door. It's a little snug, but it's all cotton, so I expect it'll stretch over time. Of course it'd help if the nails holding the brackets weren't loose. I may have to put a little glue in there. Himself wasn't too careful when he put them in the door in the first place.

It's done. I did it. I made a full-length, top and bottom rod pocket, lined door curtain. I survived. I am in shock.

Anne, next week, the door out to the deck
