Another set of dolls from Pamela Hastings' Transformative Dollmaking Class. Better late than never, I guess.

These are mini healing dolls I made for my bestest buddy and myself, to help with the, how can I put this, inconveniences of menopause. Or, as a button I saw someplace put it, "They're not Hot Flashes, they're Power Surges".

Mine, front and back views (the color is closer to reality on the back view; I shot the photos in the patio in natural light. I really need a decent studio light setup):

Daria's, ditto:

Each is a little over 5" tall including the hair. Both are made from batik fabric, with fuzzy sparkly yarn hair embellished with vintage star sequins. Each carries a fan to cope with hot flashes and her own Mr Bolty to smite the annoying, er, that is, discharge negative energies. They are ornamented with seed beads in iridescent yellow and fuschia in heart and spiral designs; mine also has a cowrie in the appropriate place.

Daria's doll's face is a vintage mother-of-pearl button with a peyote-stitch setting. Mine is a mask charm from Artgirlz.

I'm not sure why I chose that face, but it insisted on being used, so there must be a good reason. Thinking about it, maybe it's because of the whole "Wise Woman" thing - I keep being told how wise I am, how I always know the right thing to do, and they keep asking me for advice. But behind that façade, I have no idea what I'm doing; I can't make good choices for myself, let alone others, and I don't like being depended upon that way. Anyway... she also looks like she has my horrible killer cramps, poor thing.

Mine also has little hoop earrings made from square jumprings with a star sequin strung on each and a seed bead necklace. D's has an ankle bracelet.

I love the beading and at the same time am envious youcan do it; I'm having trouble holding pencils this week, let alone needles.

Julia, needing to throw a massive tantrum.
