What a day

Let me state up front that Shadow's home safe now.

Shadow was waiting outside the bedroom door this morning. Good.

Shadow had a big lump on her side behind her right front leg that felt like an abscess. Not good.

Shadow sneered at her nice breakfast and went back under Kitty's bed. Also not good.

I put the dish under the bed with her, and she ate a little. Okay.

I called the vet around 8:15 to see if I could get her looked at today. They were booked solid through Tuesday, but if I got her there before 9, Dr Forbes would take a look at her. I enticed Shadow out from under the bed with chicken, wrangled her into the carrier, drove to the vet and dropped her off. Then we waited, and waited. Dr F called. Shadow has two infected wounds (the second was on her back) and they needed chest x-rays to see if the infection was in her chest and if she had any fractured ribs. There was a chance she'd need a specialist, at which point we might have to decide whether or not to let her go. I okayed the x-rays and we waited.

Dr F called with good news: Shadow's chest was clear, no broken or fractured anything, her blood work looked good. We were still looking at $1200*, but with a good outcome, and Dr F could handle everything there. So I gave her the go-ahead. It all went well, Shadow's home, with sutures and drains and a cone of shame. She's wobbly and very hungry. She's had all the food she's allowed tonight and is begging for more. Which she can't have tonight. But she's definitely more alert and lively than she's been since the catfight.

Behold my cat, the conehead.

Sad tortie cat in cone of shame

*It's fortunate we have some funds from Aged Mum's estate.
