A Blast From the Past
Aug. 5th, 2021 07:49 pmSince I fell into enamel pin collecting, I've also been digging out my old pins to add to the collection. I've been trying to find the JPL pins from Aged Dad, and yesterday I remembered where they might be.
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, once upon a time, in the age of the dinosaurs, I used to make costumes and dress up* and go to cons. Back in the 80s I embroidered a black canvas purse to carry at said cons. After some rummaging, I found it. There were the JPL pins, but I'd forgotten about the awesome Blake's 7 pins.
I'm going to add all my new SF related pins and hang the bag in my studio. With all the new pins I suspect I'll need to reinforce it, so I'll get a piece of plastic canvas to stick inside and pin into. Anyhoo, I took a picture, because the embroidery isn't half bad. The embroidery is done in DMC floss blended with Balger Glow filament, which glows in the dark. The planets are cross-stitch, the rest is freehand with lots of French knots, the Liberator is part iron-on holo film and part embroidery. I used to do a LOT of embroidery.

*Mainly Star Wars, Dr Who, and Blake's 7, with a few historical costumes thrown in.
†I still have the charts! Oh dear, now I want to do some more space stuff.
