Bleagh, too early
Jun. 9th, 2007 06:00 amSo not awake... This time, I couldn't sleep, and couldn't sleep, and finally got up and took a pill. Then I slept, mostly, but had weird dreams. Ben Browder was in parts of them. I do not know why.
Then I woke up just on time to give the cats their breakfast. I do not love the smell of kibble in the mornings...
Last night we were poking around looking for something to fill the time between The Newshour and the passive-aggressive newshour aka Stewart and Colbert. There was baseball, and then, around 7:40, Paul discovered that She's Having a Baby was on.
So we watched the last twenty minutes of that, waiting impatiently for the delivery-room scene, because one must watch the delivery-room scene. Or at least, listen to it. It is, after all, a KaTe music video.
This time, I paid attention to the scene itself rather than the song, and I was struck by how good an actor Kevin Bacon really is. He's subtle, he doesn't chew the scenery, and it's lovely acting. Especially when you consider that, if the story is correct, he played it cold without the music. A lot of credit has to go to the director and editor, but still, it's a nice little gem.
According to gaffa.org, who got it from an interview with John Hughes, this is what happened:
John Hughes is a Kate Bush fan. He decided that he really needed a KaTe song for the movie, she agreed. He sent her a rough cut of the scene, and told her to write the song, he'd recut the scene to fit her work.
What KaTe sent him back was "This Woman's Work", and it was written exactly to fit the piece of film he'd sent her. Genius, she is.
Anne, need tea now
