(Not) the most wonderful time of the year

Ouch ouch ouch. whine whine whine. I hate hate HATE the first weekend of June.
The Catholic school carnival is in full fling, about a quarter-mile away. BoomboomboomBOOMboom noisy "music", constantly until, probably, 11PM tonight. My head is pounding already.
I keep telling myself that it was much worse when we lived across the street from the church, but that isn't helping right now.
It really was; not just the noise, but the people who parked their cars illegally in our alley, practically across our front walk, lawn and blocking our garage door, while the police strutted around flirting with teenaged girls and looking for gang members to harass.
Then there were the broken glasses strewn on the sidewalk from teenagers who won them at the game booths, and the empty beer bottles and other trash littering the sidewalks for blocks around on Monday... :P At times like this, I suspect that the Brea PD is in the thrall, or at least the pay, of St Angela Merici. Why else would the people running the carnival feel so free to flout all tenents of good-neighbor-ness, not to mention possibly the local regulations about noise?
So it could be worse, or so I keep telling myself. And it will all be over sometime tomorrow. Until next year.
