Tomorrow's Horoscope Today

I could totally get behind this.

1/05/24 SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You would use every last one of the 1,440 minutes of this day to make life better for those you love if you could. Give more of those minutes to your own self-care, as those minutes are what make all other service possible.

Birthday

Mine. 69 and feeling every second of it. The fam are being very good to me, there will be takeout pho for lunch. But I'm tired and depressed and I don't know why*. Anyhoo I decided that's what I really wanted to do today is stay home and potter. I'll bake brownies later. Or maybe tomorrow. We already have a lot of cookies including the fancy holiday JoJos. But right now I'm going to go sort the box of travel-related ephemera and see if there's anything I need before I place an order with
https://www.silvercrowcreations.com/ tomorrow.

My horoscope:

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You can populate your mind with thoughts that help and delight you, though inevitably less-desirable ideas will get in there too. These intrusions are like internet pop-up ads, easily removed by clicking on the little "x."

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Dec. 8). Your grace and poise make others feel at ease, but your unwavering support and encouragement are to credit for what happens in you corner; the whole group will rise as you build on each other's successes. More highlights: a special soulful connection, a run of stellar performances and the lucrative conclusion of a three-year project. Gemini and Libra adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 2, 22, 4, 8 and 10.

+I know part of why, but I can't do anything about it and I don't know why my dad's dying on my birthday in 2009 still upsets me. Guilt that I didn't try harder, I guess.

Finished Mini Gourd Necklaces

Here they are, the original one that started with the class in, um, err, 2003, and the two I did this month. They're all wrapped in knotless netting, 2-ply Irish waxed linen threads. Photos )

More Pouches

I decided to photograph the older fetish pouches/treasure baskets/whatevers. The hummingbird nest pouch and the one I made for Aged Mum are already here on DreamWidth; just use the knotless netting tag. Photos here )

Finished The Drawstring Pouch

It's an amulet pouch. I didn't have a coherent plan or theme, just things I like and that have meaning and/or feel like protection symbols. Photos here )

First Waxed Linen Pouch

I finished one of my little waxed linen necklace pouches. This one turned into Summer because the way the thread and raffia blended looked like the summer sky. So it's sort of a sea, land, air in summer thing. It's not as embellished as most of my work but this is what it seemed to want. Photos )

Creative Thread Embroidery Progress

The embroidery is done. Next, I haul all the boxes of cotton batiks out of the den closet and see if there's anything that'll work for the backing and binding the edges.

Creative Thread Embroidery Progress

Apparently I uploaded the photo for Lesson 1 and forgot to post it. To be fair, that was also the day the garage across the back alley burned down. I may have been a wee bit distracted. Better late than never )

Creative Thread Embroidery Progress

Okay then. I finally got through Lesson 2 of the Creative Thread Embroidery Class. Lesson 3 is filling stitches and finishing. I'm tired of this and just want it done, honestly. I will not be making it into a needlebook as in the class. It'd make an awkwardly one, and I don't use needlebooks anyway. I have too many needles. So here's the project so far. Photo )

Another Day, Another Rant

First, ants in the snacks cupboard. I just got everything put back in time for laundry day today*. Second load hits spin cycle, I hear water gushing. Being a paranoid worrying sort, I go look. The washer drain was backing up. There's even some water coming out from under the washer. I called Roto-Rooter, they got us an appointment for this morning.

I had to run errands, so I left Paul in charge. By the time I got home, the line (sewer, main) had been cleared† and he was talking to another person from R-R who wanted to sell us on a $15K loan to pay for $2500 of water damage mitigation on the other side of the wall from the washer. Which is Paul's workroom, and which is now a bit damp. We took her card and said we'd think about it.

I helped Paul drag several cardboard boxes of wet magazines‡ and a bunch of other not-wet stuff into the patio, and he removed a chunk of damp ratty old carpet. It doesn't look bad, really. However, there's a homeowners' insurance inspector going to drop by sometime in the next week to inspect our exterior, and the patio is now full of random junk. Paul was planning to spend today cleaning up outside, but obviously that didn't happen.

Kitty and I went to Panda Express for takeout for everyone, I eventually finished the laundry, and I cleaned up Dr Emily's room some more. She'll be home tomorrow evening, and I wanted her to at least be able to sleep in her bed and access her dresser.

Oh, yeah, before the floods came, there was Pooka. She's licking a thigh bald this time, so she's back in the Cone of Shame and very needy and clingy about it.

*And reorganized the kitchen table and the cart so the opened bags in their ziplocs can sit there instead. Ziplocs are not as ant-proof as you'd think.

†Roots. It's always roots.

‡Alas for his old Fine Woodworking collection.

Look, It's A Shiny Thing

I spent part of today restringing my favorite elasticated mala bracelets. The ones I wasn't wearing anyway will be taken apart and recycled back into the hoard. Then I took apart a pair of hairsticks I'd made that were too long to wear, and turned the focal beads into a pair of earrings. They make me think of the moon over the sea. Oooh shiny )

It's a happy day!

Today is the second anniversary of the day Norma Rae and Pooka joined the family! They are the Best Girls, sweet and loving, and we were very lucky to find them.

A Meow From the Past

I follow Cats of Yore on Twitter, and yesterday she posted a picture of someone I knew.

Room 8 was my school cat when I attended Elysian Heights public school in LA for kindergarten and 1st grade, way back in 1960-62. I remember we all fed him bits of our lunches. There's a book about Room 8, and I own a copy. A Cat Called Room 8 )

My Scary Little Mermaid

She's done. Since Paul doesn't want her anywhere near him*, she's going to live in my studio most of the time. At Halloween she will emerge from her watery lair to terrify all beholders, heh heh heh. Beware )

Finished Another Thing - Behold My Stuff

This is what I've been working on all week. The batty stuff was there first, including the plush bats hanging from the ceiling. I like bats. I redid the middle and bottom shelves and some of the side nooks to display my Halloween miniatures and some of the maneki neko. The vintage needlebooks and cards of snaps on the back wall are left over from the previous display of vintage sewing stuff, Lego minifigs etc. I still like looking at them so they get to stay. I'm especially fond of the ATOMIC rocketship needlebook.

The felt cone witches were kits from Artgirlz; most of the Halloween decor came from Michael's. I've been collecting the minis for a few years now. I was displaying them on the table for our future train layout, but this year Paul objected. Too bad, now I can enjoy them all year round.

Today I moved other things from one shelf to another and made a pile to pack up. Tomorrow I will hang my new bat mobile from the ceiling with the other mobiles and fairies and bats, and it'll be done. At least until I get another great idea.
