Parliament is Back in Session

I finished a project! I made a fabric-wrapped coiled basket nest for the owl plushies using the techniques from Tammy Gilley's Treasure Basket class (see here).

Materials: Assorted batiks in 1" strips, ½" cotton upholstery cord, quilting thread, florist's wire and tape, spun cotton mushrooms, and a pine bough from the Christmas clearance at Michael's. I had originally planned on embellishing the basket with acorns and oak leaves, and a lot more stuff, but I found the pine boughs and it all sort of came together. The bottom fabrics are all earth tones for the roots and trunk of the tree, then I added more leafy colors and patterns as I went up the sides of the basket.

The completed basket.

Upside down to show off the fabrics and the label (cotton muslin, Staz-On ink, one of my rubber stamps, Pigma Micron permanent pen).

Back on top of the studio bookshelf, full of owls.
