Happy Humph Day

It's been One of Those Days.

I woke up with the beginnings of a nasty sinus headache, which continued developing the rest of the day. I dosed myself up, which meant that I was groggy as well as pained.

Still, I walked to the market and home the long way around the block. Then I drove (carefully) to Trader Joe's, then parked by Staples, did my shopping there, and walked across the parking lot to Michael's. Only a little walk, but better than nothing.

But because my head hurts, I really didn't feel up to tackling the next round of sorting and culling. When I'm in that kind of headspace, it's "burn it down and salt the earth" time.

My Aged Mother was pushy and needy (not unusual, just harder to take today) and asked unhelpful questions like "Did you take anything for the headache?" "No, mom, I just wandered around sneezing and moaning all day." Sheesh.

It was power mower leafblower day all over the block, with the usual dust and noise, and it's the first Wednesday concert at the park a block east tonight, which means traffic and noise until 9PM or so.

The Husband needs four new crowns at $1100 per (after insurance). He's going to get two this year, which will completely eat up his dental benefits, and the others in January. There goes our budget again.

But after dinner, I got a second wind. So I got out the fabric ink stamp pads, the cotton fabric for running through the inkjet printer, my special "From the Studio of" rubber stamp, some test paper, and went at it.

My efforts were crowned with success. I have a sheet of six labels stamped on fabric, three purple, three blue. Tomorrow after they've dried, I'll cut out a purple one for the folk doll quilt, sign and date it with my turquoise ultrafine Sharpie, and attach it to the back of the quilt.

I think she needs a real name. Peaceful, maybe, or Serenity. I think I like Serenity best. It has certain mythic connotations (Joss, you bastard!), and it suits her expression.

The mermaid will get one when she's finished, as well. I'm thinking Playful for her, although I hope to find something better.

So, not such a bad end to the day after all.
