Boho Art Quilt Class, Lesson 1

This is the online class I'm working on currently. Tammy Gilley's Boho Art Quilt Class

Lesson one was quilt block construction. Here's the quilt block, all basted down on the batting and muslin backing:

Materials: Muslin, cotton batiks, vintage embroidered cotton square, cotton batting, thread. I didn't have an old quilt to cut up and couldn't find one at a yard sale or thrift store, so I just used stuff I already had. Really. I already owned everything in the photo. You should see the box of batik fabrics I've collected over the years.

It's about 13x14"; I haven't quite decided which way is up. I'll have to finalise that before I do the embroidered motto on the blank muslin part. At the moment, I'm thinking of putting it on a tote bag, with "Not all who wander are lost" as the motto, but that's subject to change without notice. It's still evolving.

It's not very "Boho", whatever that means, I guess, but I like it. Next lesson, embellishment. I've already got out some trims and rickracks, and I'll be digging through the button drawer over the weekend.
